My main admissions specialisms are Materials Science, General Engineering and Physics. I also provide ESAT preparation for applicants taking the Maths, Physics and Chemistry modules, including applicants to other universities and STEM courses. My Oxford Materials Science degree is highly interdisciplinary, so I also tutor Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry at GCSE and A-level.

A personal, problem-solving approach to tutoring
I'm Daniel, and alongside studying Materials Science at Oxford I've spent much of my time tutoring students in STEM subjects and university admissions. I particularly enjoy the moment when a difficult problem starts to make sense, and I try to make my lessons relaxed enough that students are comfortable asking questions while still keeping them focused and challenging.
My teaching style is built around problem-solving rather than simply memorising methods. I like to work through the reasoning behind an idea, ask students to explain their thinking and gradually make questions more demanding so that they become confident approaching unfamiliar problems independently. For admissions students, this naturally develops into the style of discussion and thinking aloud needed in Oxbridge interviews.
Outside tutoring and university, I'm very involved in sport, particularly rugby, tennis, table tennis and powerlifting. Alongside my degree, I've gained real-world scientific and engineering experience through internships, including at Paragraf and Alloyed, where I gained experience applying scientific and engineering problem-solving beyond the classroom. I enjoy drawing on this experience in tutoring to show students how the Maths, Physics and Chemistry they learn connect to real engineering and scientific problems.
